Subject: "The Big Bang Theory, So to Speak"
Author: Lt. Vilmer
Scene: Engineering Holodeck, Captain's Ready Room: Independence
Time: During "Ourselves, In the Mirror"
"Nothing like using a thirteen pound sledge hammer to swat a
fly," Indy's CEO said to the empty air of holodeck 3 as his
simulation ended.
Vilmer had a hunch about how the Independence had been
transferred to the Mirror Universe; his simulation confirmed it.
A tear in the fabric of space-time created a funnel to the Mirror
Universe and the Indy was drawn through.
The amount and types of particles emitted by the event did
include a high concentration of chronitons. Enough chronitons
were emitted to make it a reasonable scenario that the ship was
caught in temporal incident. The engineer was as grateful as
anyone when science ruled out that possibility. At least this way
they only had to solve the inter-dimensional problem.
---Captain's Ready Room---
A stunned hush befell the room as Kal's simulation ended. The
assembled officers took a moment longer than usual to assimilate
the data presented to them. If Kal was right they were dealing
with a weapons' test that had gone seriously wrong.
According to the CEO's theory the Trill had used atomics to try
and generate a controlled singularity. The event the Trill
generated had but one purpose, that of a weapon capable of
destroying an entire planet.
"That has no place in rational thought," Commander
Deadilus exclaimed, justifiably outraged at the abuse of
scientific principle.
"I couldn't agree more, sir," Kal returned, "my
only answer for it is the fact that the Trill technology seems to
be stunted here. The Romulans have been using singularities for
decades, and even they don't consider using it as a weapon."
"Why did we end up here?" Captain Morris asked.
"My best guess is that the Trill haven't perfected their
weapon system, and they lost control of their test. It was just
our luck that it opened where it did in our universe."
There were a few half-hearted laughs around the table. There
wasn't an officer present who hadn't been touched by the "luck
of the Indy" more than once.
"What about the other Independence?" the captain asked.
"If what we know about the Mirror Universe holds true, we
could be in for some serious trouble, they are everything we are
and will not have any doubt or hesitation in using it,"
Commander Daran answered.
Morris nodded. "All right, get us prepared to fight if we
have to and get working on a solution to get us home."
The captain looked around the table one final time and Kal spoke
up.
"Sir, we may need to do something about that weapon, if the
Trill continue to use it and either can't or won't learn to
control it, there is no telling what damage they can do,"
Kal spoke, his voice trailing off at the end.
"Understood, you have your orders," Captain Morris
stated dismissing the meeting.
