Title: Ruling Independence, Part 2
Author: Commander Scott Deadilus
Time: After "Ruling Independence, Part 1"
Scene: USS Independence

The problems had not stopped with the spacial anomaly. The gravitational effects caused by the extra matter in local space had now started to have severe effects on the Trill homeworld; the Mirror Independence had gone decidedly quiet and trained her weapons on them; and the data uncovered from the numerous hacks indicated the Trillian Empire had more than just the one weapon.

Scott had been studying all the records to determine what, if anything, could be done to return them to THEIR universe. So far the only way he could see was to find a sizeable ion storm. Either that or attempt to create an equivalent (but oppositely charged) tear in space.

Whilst he ploughed through the data before him, including schematics of the weapon tested earlier, Lt. Commander K'Pajek and Lt. Vilmer continued to work on enhancing their shield and weapon strength and durability. The fight seemed almost inevitable, and the odds were distinctly NOT on their side.

Captain Morris and Commander Daran sat in the Captain's office, discussing their options away from everyone else. With surrender not an option, they could either stay and fight, or turn and run.

"It's hard trying to guess what 'I' would do." Morris spoke, referring to his Mirror Universe counterpart. "After all, he is me, and yet he is everything I am not."

Natira placed the cup down gently and looked up at her commanding officer.

"I think I know what I might do if I was as evil as Frankson's report made 'me' out to be. And if I'm right, the fight will be coming to us soon."

In both universes, the planet Trill continued to be affected by the anomaly.

In their home universe the symbionts, dwelling deep within the caves of Mak'ala, could do nothing as (quite literally) the world around them started coming to pieces. Meanwhile, in the Mirror Universe, deep within those same caves, the Alpha Trills prepared for the next atomic to be launched.

Emperor Jax-KS the Sixth stood by, waiting as the Beta Trills below worked away on the second missile. The thought of ruling over THIS galaxy had driven him on, had driven him to push the scientists and test the weapon.

The thought of ruling over two dimensions, maybe more, made him work them even harder.
